The MFAA is proud to again partner with Bankwest to deliver the Women in Finance Broking event series in 2026.
Building on last year’s focus on women’s growing influence as financial decision makers, this year’s series explores how brokers can respond appropriately when clients are navigating increasingly complex personal and financial circumstances.
Every day, mortgage and finance brokers help clients make some of the most important financial decisions of their lives. Sometimes, those conversations involve more than lending.
Clients may be navigating relationship breakdown, financial hardship, caring responsibilities, unexpected life events or other circumstances that affect their financial decisions. As a trusted professional, knowing how to respond appropriately while maintaining clear professional boundaries is an increasingly valuable capability.
Join the MFAA, Financial Counselling Australia and Full Stop Australia for an interactive session designed to help you approach these conversations with greater confidence, empathy and professional judgement.

What you will learn
Designed specifically for mortgage and finance brokers, this session will help you:
✓ Better understand the factors that may affect a client’s financial situation and decision making.
✓ Recognise indicators of financial vulnerability, financial abuse and coercive control that may arise during client conversations.
✓ Respond with appropriate language, confidence and professionalism when a client shares a challenging personal circumstance.
✓ Understand what brokers can safely do within their role when a client is experiencing vulnerability.
✓ Maintain clear professional boundaries and recognise when a client may need financial counselling or specialist support.
✓ Identify when and how to make a warm referral to the National Debt Helpline or another appropriate service, and consider your own wellbeing when managing challenging client interactions.

What to expect
Through realistic broker scenarios and facilitated discussion, you will explore how financial abuse, coercive control and other forms of vulnerability can affect clients and present during everyday broking conversations.
The focus will be on sound professional judgement and actions you can apply in your business, including how to respond appropriately, maintain the boundaries of your role and make a warm referral to financial counselling or specialist support. Brokers are not expected to investigate a client’s circumstances or provide counselling.
Who should attend?
Whether you are new to broking or an experienced broker or business owner, this session will help strengthen your ability to support clients through complex conversations while maintaining professionalism and clear boundaries.
You will leave with tools, language and approaches you can apply in your client conversations and business.
